What You Need – Automatic Sugar Cane Farm

Firstly, you will need 5 Observers, 5 Pistons, 5 Redstone Dust, 2 Water buckets, a stack of glass, a stack of dirt, 2 powered rails, 2 rails, 1 hopper minecar, 1 hopper and a chest. Once obtained you can begin the construction.

Step 1 – Build An Infinite Water Source

How To Build A Sugar Cane Farm

In order to build an infinite water source you need to do dig a square trench 2 blocks by 2 block . Once you have dug out the trench, you can now pour your first bucket of water in one corner and the second bucket in the opposite corner. It makes no difference to your water supply how many times you refill and replenish your bucket from the trench since the trench will automatically refill itself.

Step 2 – Building The Automatic Sugar Cane Farm – How To Build A Sugar Cane Farm

The farm can be as large as you want, though most people will build it around five blocks in length. Firstly you will need to lay down a 5 block by 3 block rectangle of dirt. (It is not necessary to include the corner blocks, see screenshot below). Which you will then fill with water.

Once you have filled the structure with water, the next step is to cover the water with 5 dirt blocks. At this point, you will need to lay 5 pistons above the 5 dirt blocks. On the plane side face of the piston blocks, you need to place 5 dirt blocks.

The next step is to place 5 observers above the 5 pistons.

After you have placed the 5 observers, you can then go ahead and place red stone dust atop of the 5 dirt blocks. These 5 dirt blocks are ones that that extend out like a shelf below the 5 pistons.

Step 3 – Planting The Storks – How To Build A Sugar Cane Farm

In order to complete the structure we will need to circle to the opposite side of the wall from the pistons. On the bottom ledge of the wall, you will need to place 5 sugar cane storks.

After this, you will need to surround the sugar cane storks with glass, completely boxed in. It is important to note that the glass casing consists of 2 sections. The first section is a frame (4 blocks tall, 7 blocks wide) that begins at the same level as the storks and envelopes it like a door frame. The first glass block is placed to the left of the storks.

The second section is the protective face to the storks. The first block is placed directly in front of the left most storks. This wall of blocks is 3 tall and 5 wide and unlike the first section it is not a frame with a hollow interior, It is a complete wall of blocks.

Step 4 – Digging The Ditch – Automatic Sugar Cane Farm

Once you have completed the glass section, you will then need to build a ditch below the storks. The ditch should be at least 2 blocks deep (from ground level), 5 blocks wide and 4 blocks long. Equally important is to ensure the ditch begins directly below the storks.

Initially, you will need to place a 5 block row of dirt in the ditch directly beneath the storks. In order to have a space for the hopper, the middle block on the row should be left empty. Once you have placed a hopper in the empty space, you can then place a chest directly in front of the hopper. Finally, you will need to replace the 2 most outer blocks of the row with red stone blocks.

Step 5 – Laying The Track

Now that you have your row of 5 dirt blocks with the hopper at its center, you can now begin to lay the rail tracks. On the first and last block of your row, you will need to place a powered rail piece. The next step is to lay plaine rail pieces along the length of the 5 blocks. This includes covering the 2 powered rail pieces at each end.

The next and final step is to place the hopper minecart on the rails. As a result of the growth of the sugar cane, the observer can detect the growth and trim the sugar cane storks. The storks can then be collected by the hopper. Finally the sugar cane is deposited in the chest by the hopper.

Conclusion – How To Build A Sugar Cane Farm

In conclusion, mastering the art of building an automated sugar cane farm in Minecraft opens up a world of possibilities for resource gathering and redstone engineering. By carefully selecting a prime location and meticulously crafting the infrastructure, players can establish a self-sustaining system that efficiently produces sugar cane. Through the strategic use of redstone components and regular maintenance, the farm can be fine-tuned to maximize its output. As a result, this endeavor not only yields a consistent supply of sugar cane for crafting paper, books, and other essential items but also provides an opportunity for players to delve into the intricacies of redstone automation and develop valuable engineering skills. Embracing the challenge of creating an automated sugar cane farm ultimately enriches the Minecraft experience, offering a rewarding and practical venture for players to explore within the game.

Now that you have your automatic sugar cane farm in full production, you can now benefit from all the items that sugar cane can be used to craft such as books, maps and even rockets.
